What is an RDHAP?
The Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) is an independent dental hygiene practitioner created to increase access to dental hygiene care in our communities. An RDHAP provides care in a variety of areas such as nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, and schools. An RDHAP provides not only clinical hygiene care but preventative services, oral hygiene education and can coordinate referrals to other health professionals. To become an RDHAP, you must already be an Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), have a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent and documented 2000 hours of clinical hygiene practice. You must pass a specialized training program as well as a state licensure exam.
